JULIA LAPLAZA, LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR
Do you find yourself comparing your life to those of your peers? Do you feel overwhelmed about making the “right” career choices? Do you worry about making other people happy? I specialize in working with college students and young adults in the workforce struggling to cope with anxiety, relationship difficulties, and navigating what it means to become an adult with increased responsibilities, pressures, and decisions. As a bilingual Latinx woman, I know how hard it can be to absorb all of the pressures of the world around you from family, friends, work, and society trying to please everyone all at once and wondering when you’ll be enough.
Whether this is your first time in therapy or a recent stressor in your life has led to a need for increased support, I will work to ensure that you feel heard, understood, and safe. I believe therapy to be a collaborative process where we work together to unite your past and present, and help you to work through your problems towards a healthier, happier future. I place a lot of emphasis on creating a warm and welcoming therapeutic environment to allow you to be your most authentic self.
Through my work with college students and young adults in the workforce, I have been successful in helping clients find relief from painful past experiences and overcome barriers towards meeting their goals. In our work together you will be able to discover new insights about yourself and get to the root of your challenges. My goal is to help you regain control of your life and see long term change.

JULIA’S SPECIALTIES AND APPROACH:
I utilize a combination of Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships gain the confidence and understanding to meet their goals and begin to feel “unstuck.”
By using Psychodynamic Therapy we will be able to:
Identify origins of anxieties / habits
Better understand how your past experiences have impacted you and make connections to your current difficulties
Process family dynamics
Uncover and identify the use of defense mechanisms or unconscious motivators
By using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy we will be able to:
Identify the beliefs you hold that may be holding you back from experiencing the world in a way that helps you meet your personal and life goals
Learn coping mechanisms for anxiety and depressive symptoms
Create new healthy habits, behaviors, and boundaries
By utilizing both of these therapies together, I can tailor therapy to what you specifically need as a client so that you can feel prioritized and seen, and begin to feel the relief that you are looking for. You are not alone, we can tackle this together. I am here to support you.
