ANGEL THEN, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR - LIMITED PERMIT

Do you find yourself feeling stuck, repeating old patterns of behaviors you wish to change, no matter what you do? Trauma can leave you feeling like you’re stuck in a cycle in which you find yourself ruminating over the past while actively struggling to manage in the present, all while feeling a sense of being detached from yourself and the world around you. You may feel pressure to “move on” or “get over it” from your friends, family, or significant other, which leaves you feeling isolated and misunderstood. Trauma has a way of impacting almost every facet of your life and it does so in ways that often go unnoticed, which leaves your mental health, physical health, relationships, and professional life in a vulnerable place. Are you feeling as though you’re frequently reliving past negative events, have trouble focusing and difficulty sleeping, or notice that your relationships have been struggling? As a therapist, I encounter trauma and loss through the stories of my clients. You want to return to a time when things were normal for you and when you felt good, but something is holding you back from being the person you want to be and living the life that you want to live.

Are you feeling burdened and feeling like you need an emotional release but don’t feel comfortable going to anyone in your personal life with these intimate details? You’ve grown tired of the mask that you wear day in and day out when you’re showing up for others. The negative thoughts have become exhausting. You wonder if you’ll ever be able to integrate the side of you that other people see and the one that is most authentic to you, that you may be afraid to show for fear of rejection or shame. Keeping these things hidden only amplifies them, but it’s how you’ve survived and maintained this long… although it’s also the source of a lot of pain.

Counseling is a safe space to process the ways that trauma impacts your life, your relationships with others, and ultimately, your relationship with yourself. As a therapist that specializes in trauma, I understand how a traumatic experience can hijack your sense of self and completely alter the world that you live in moving forward. I can help you reframe those negative thoughts, repair your relationships, and make sense of the past in an effort to begin to fully live in the present. Learning to live with your trauma is one of the most important things you can do, and finally bringing it to light rather than keeping it hidden is a powerful first step toward healing. I primarily work with individuals but I also see couples, as trauma can often show up as a third partner in a relationship. You don’t have to keep living like this. ANGEL’S APPROACH:

As a therapist I work with the adult population with a focus on trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and interpersonal issues, but treatment will always be tailored to your specific needs as I don’t believe in therapy as a one size fits all model. I pride myself on being a compassionate, active listener who offers a space where you can safely explore your thoughts and feelings from a nonjudgmental and unbiased perspective. If you’re experiencing ruminating thoughts or you feel as though you are caught in a repetitive cycle, it’s a privilege for me to be able to help you work through those moments in life where you may be feeling stuck. My approach is an integration of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy, but I also lean on aspects of humanistic therapy and philosophy to bridge the gap between one’s mental health and overall functioning in the present moment and events of one’s past. The goal is to use this safe space to not only explore your thoughts and feelings but to tailor the treatment to your unique and specific needs to gain equanimity.

As a counselor I can work with you to:

  • Achieve mental calmness to remain even keeled in times of stress

  • Develop a better understanding of yourself and gain more self-awareness

  • Explore your relationship patterns and improve communication skills

  • Work through grief and loss whether that is a loved one, relationship, or job

  • Develop strong coping skills that are reliable and tailored to your needs

  • Address self-esteem issues and develop a better sense of autonomy

My therapeutic approach prioritizes open-mindedness, patience, and compassion for my clients, so if you're interested in giving therapy a shot please don’t hesitate to reach out to me today!
