MAGGIE MCCARTHY, LICENSED MASTER SOCIAL WORKER

Headshot of Maggie McCarthy, LMSW

It’s 3 AM and you’re still awake, unable to move past that mistake you made at work, haunted by the pain from a previous relationship years prior, or consumed by worries about tomorrow—and blaming yourself for it all. For so many, this is a nightly struggle. But your distress doesn’t define you. Together, we can rewrite those stories you tell about yourself, guiding you toward self-acceptance and peace.

I work with adults in their 20s and 30s dealing with a history of unresolved pain. With a keen awareness of both individual factors and the impacts of social injustice and intersectional oppression, I support my clients on their journeys towards healing. My focus is on helping you safely navigate the complexities of trauma, cope with feelings of loss or lack of control, and challenge negative thinking patterns to achieve the comfort and joy you deserve to feel in your own skin.

In our work together, I will emphasize the importance of our strong therapeutic relationship. By creating a supportive space where you feel truly seen, heard, and accepted, I can help you address both the root causes and the broader social contexts of your challenges, so you can gain a better understanding of yourself, and develop strategies to enhance your everyday experience. An authentic, approachable, and trustworthy connection between us is essential for meaningful change.

Confronting pain and negative self-perception can be overwhelming, and I understand the impulse to avoid it and just try harder to outrun the noise. My goal is to provide a safe place to explore your past experiences and challenges together, foster resilience, and help you develop a healthier relationship with yourself. We’ll explore how your mind and body interact and work together to develop self-care strategies and set priorities so you can navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and ease.

Your journey towards a more fulfilled and balanced life begins here. Let’s work together to build a path toward less suffering and greater self-compassion so that you can experience personal empowerment.

Maggie’s APPROACH:

I utilize elements of mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic therapy, and narrative therapy to help you understand and reimagine past experiences, challenge negative thinking, and promote holistic healing within your mind and body. Some of the specific topics we might cover are:

  • Understanding and redefining harm from your past

  • Developing coping skills to help challenge and ground you in difficult moments

  • Quieting a restless mind

  • Strengthening your mind and body connection through mindful exercise

  • Accepting yourself as you are, for who you are, and where you are

Counseling should be a meaningful and transformative experience. I look forward to helping you transform your life for the better soon.
